Jakubiak Form Could Decide On What`s Next
Date: Thursday, 4th Apr 2024Dunfermline striker Alex Jakubiak is contracted to the club until the end of the current season, and questions have been asked regarding what’s next for the former Watford academy graduate.
But, as teams enter the final stretch of the campaign, nobody appears to know definitively what’s next for Jakubiak.
At the time of writing, Pars manager Jake McPake has stated that Jakubiak’s future remains up in the air and that there have been no talks up to press over extending the current deal of the attacker.
But McPake’s message was similarly along the lines of “let’s wait and see,” primarily because the player’s future largely depends on his form, consistency, and the fact Dunfermline will be plying their trade in the Scottish Championship once again next term.
According to McPake, Jakubiak is a player who, if he can deliver the form he’s been showing in the last couple of games on a more consistent basis, is too good for the second tier of Scottish football.
And, checking out the football betting odds, the attacker’s form in fixtures against Dundee United and Morton, both games the Pars won, and one in which Jakubiak scored, it rings true
akubiak is a player who has already proven himself in the Scottish Championship, after helping Dundee to promotion to the top flight last term. His goals and assists towards the backend of the season were crucial, but instead of giving Jakubiak the chance to impress in the division above, Dundee let him go, and he ended up remaining in the second tier by signing for Dunfermline last September.
Therefore, you could suggest this is a player who has a point to prove, not in this league, but in the Scottish Premiership, after being denied the chance to give it a crack by his former employers.
McPake, who actually signed Jakubiak for Dundee in 2020, brought him to Dunfermline on a short-term deal until the end of the season and recognised the striker`s undoubted ability. He`s pointed to the injury problems that have plagued his star player and believes this is one of the reasons why he`s been unable to show his qualities consistently. But, after starting the last four games for the Pars and getting into his groove, with a short run of matches remaining, this could be when Jakubiak comes to the fore and steals the show.
The reality is, as McPake suggested, Jakubiak, out of contract at the end of the season, could end the current campaign in style and be amongst the goals. This would then give him plenty of options in the summer, and he could seek pastures new and potentially, those pastures could include a move to the Scottish Premiership, which the player may think he deserves after what transpired at Dundee.
However, if things stay as they are and Jakubiak shows some quality but not enough to make the grade in the top flight, he could reach an agreement to stay put at Dunfermline, at least for another season, one which the Pars would hope ends in success in the form of promotion.
