Once again the Pars scored two late goals. The difference this week was that they were already leading through Joe Cardle’s first goal of the season. An own-goal and a tap-in from Craig Dargo put some gloss on the score line but the match may be remembered more for the ordinate delay in replacing the injured referee.

For the second game in succession Dunfermline came from behind to gain a point, but this time they surrendered their leadership of the division, as the first round of fixtures was completed. A Campbell double looked to be enough to give the visitors victory, before a Husband penalty and a fantastic Wallace header meant the spoils were shared.

What wins championships is not just the big victories when things are going well but the points snatched in less propitious circumstances. A lot of water has still to run under the Kincardine Bridge before this season is out, but this could be a key result in demonstrating the credibility of the Pars title ambitions. Trailing to a Lyle Taylor double with 11 minutes left, the Pars launched a stirring fight-back to equalise with goals from Barrowman and Thomson.
