Dunfermline Athletic

Profile of new defender Scott Walker

Author: Jason Barber Date: Friday, 14th Jun 2002

On the 13th June, Dunfermline announced their fourth (and final?) signing of the summer. Scott Walker has been snapped up for no fee from 1st division strugglers St Mirren.

Walker will be well known to Pars fans after his displays in the 1st division title battle in 1999/00 and St Mirren's relegation season the following year.

Here we take a brief look back at his career to date.....

27 year old Walker has another well stamped passport to rival fellow new signings, Craig Brewster and Gary Dempsey.

Starting his career with Kilmarnock, he left without making a first team appearance for the Ayrshire club. He then travelled to the far east where he spent some time playing in Asian football.

The glamour of Falkirk beckoned him back though, and East Stirling snapped Walker up on his return to Scotland. Some fine performances as he established himself as a no nonsense centre half attracted the eye of everyone's favourite manager, Tom Hendrie.

After exactly 50 appearances for East Stirling, Walker signed for St Mirren on a free transfer on the 19th May 1999.

He then became an ever present the following season as St Mirren won the 1st division title.

Keeping his place in the team during their one season in the Premier took its toll though, Walker was part of a very leaky defence and was at times found struggling at the higher level.

He again was an ever present as St Mirren found life tough back in the first division in the season just past.

Walker finished with a total of 108 appearances for the Buddies as Dunfermline made it clear they wanted him to be part of their squad for the upcoming season.

Jimmy Calderwood has had his eye on the played for a couple of years and finally got his man after stating Dunfermline would not be parting with any money for the defender.

We welcome Scott to the club and hope he be part of a defence which tightens up after last season. A lack of height was one of the more obvious criticisms of that department last year, this is an area where it is hoped that Scott will help out.
