Dunfermline Co-op Funeralcare, Co-op Food Store Shamrock St S.H.I.E.L.D.and DAFC.net, Dunfermline have come together to compile and donate 70 Christmas hampers to residents of the three Bield Housing Association complexes in Dunfermline.
The £800 plus funding for the project has been raised by the Co-ops community funding from Food Stores and Funeralcare as well as the kind donations from Dunfermline Athletics fans forum DAFC.net and S.H.I.E.L.D.
Kenny McLachlan, Care Logistics Manager at Co-op Funeralcare who initiated the charitable project with Sarah Keeble of local Support group S.H.I.E.L.D, aim to deliver the Christmas hampers on Monday 21st December, just in time for Christmas, with the help of Derek Henderson, Co-op Members Pioneer Co-ordinator, and Sarah’s group of volunteers.
The hampers will be Co-op individual Memory Boxes, which will contain mince pies, chocolate, biscuits, savouries, sweet treats, knitted hearts and a puzzle book. The boxes themselves can then be re-used to store memory jogging items from the recipient’s past
Local Co-op members Pioneer, Sam Gunn, has also asked children from McLean Primary School and Beanstock Nursery to create Christmas cards to go into the mini hampers.
Kenny commented: “Some of these people may well have no family and may therefore have a very lonely Christmas with their social interactions with their fellow association residents being curtailed in these difficult times.
Sarah Keeble added “We see this as a good way to bring our community together and to use the good will of the people of Dunfermline to spread a little Christmas cheer.”
The hampers will be donated to all three units at Dunfermline Bield Housing Association, Gillie Court, John Connelly Court and Grants Bank.
