Andrius Skerla profile
Author: Eastendskerla Date: Sunday, 12th May 2002A profile of Andrius Skerla.
Andrius Skerla is a destined Pars legend. He has been a rock at the back of defence ever since he signed and has coped with world class players like Larsson, Flo.
He signed in the summer of 2000 along with goalkeeper Marco Ruitenbeek and I remember the day well, he was anounced in all the papers as a "Young rising star in football". But was not heard of out here in scotland.
He had played them twice in euro 2000 Qualifiers for his country Lithuania which he had over 20 caps for and only the age of 23. He had started his career at lithuanian side FK Zalgiris and went on to sign for Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven who was managed by bobby robson at the time
He only played a handfull of games for them but did get experience in the champions league against Kaiserslautern and Benfica and also won the dutch KPN erdivisie twice. This was when I started supporting skerla and watched out for Lithuania's results and how he was getting on.
When signed for Dunfemline he started well by scoring twice in Holland pre-season and getting MOTM against Aberdeen which I remember ended goalless. His first real goal for the club came in the Scottish Cup 4th round at East End Park against Celtic. I was not there but watched the highlights. I remember the corner from Justin Skinner and half volley from Skerla it was a peach.
By the end of the season he had won awards from supporters and even got the club Player of the year, also was rounded up with a name in Craig Brown's team of the year.
The year 2000-2001 saw Andrius Skerla voted the Internet Player of the year.
The start of season 2001/2002 he made a bad start but got his head up and started playing back to his normal and scored yet again this time against Motherwell. I think he hit it with his rear. He pledged his future at Dunfermline by signing a new 4 year deal which keeps him at the pars till 2006.
But the season was happy for Dunfermline as the received a top 6 finish and Andrius does believe the Pars will make Europe sometime in his Pars career.
But now he has gone online THE OFFICIAL ANDRIUS SKERLA SITE.
It contains all the appearances of the games he has played for every club, every cap for country Lithuania. The Lithuanian national anthem and pictures of every club he has played for, interviews, press, history, stats, news, songs and chants, links and more..............
